From Reed Jolley:

WHAT’S INSIDE THAT CAN?
Amid recall fever few noticed Gov. Gray Davis’ stand against soda pop. One of the Governor’s last acts in office was the signing of legislation that will ban the sale of sugar-filled sodas in elementary, middle and junior high schools throughout California. Yes, it’s probably a good idea to do away with the sale of such beverages when all is considered, but the prohibition does seem a bit ironic in light of SB 71, a bill signed by Davis one week before the recall election. SB71 is a controversial sex education bill that minimizes parental veto power and reduces sex to plumbing and protection. Columnist Cal Thomas weighs in with his disdain. SB71 creates a new system of comprehensive sexual health education for children from kindergarten through 12th grade. Materials used in the course are required to promote transsexual and homosexual ideas in order (in the language of the new law) that they will be appropriate for use with pupils of all genders and sexual orientations. It dismisses the value of marriage by teaching so-called respect for committed relationships. And, incredibly, the new law abolishes the parental right to be asked permission before sex surveys can be given to one's child in a public school. And this will start in kindergarten.

For those of you in California, you can call Governor Schwarzenegger at 916-445-2841 to ask him to repeal SB71.
