America needs to open its doors to foreign talent

Craig Barrett said today in the Financial Times that "we should staple a green card to the diploma of every foreign student who graduates from an advanced technical degree programme here". This is a huge issue. America is a nation of immigrants, but more recently there has been a strong move to close the borders and hem ourselves into a cocoon of Americana. This just doesn't work, folks. Grad students who come to America often, in my experience, want to stay. When they can't get a visa, we lose out just as much as they do. Here's the article. By the way, the guy who wrote this is married to a Thunderbird trustee.
